You may already have an Internet access account, you may already
be good at using email, surfing the Web, ftping data to and from many places. However,
please note your Internet email address such as joe@isp.net is not
the same as a domain name. In this example, isp.net is the domain name
associated with your email address. It is very easy and inexpensive to get such an address
these days, but your Internet identity, including your user ID (joe), is
associated with isp.net, your Internet Service Provider, NOT
your own company or organization. This may or may not be important to you. However, if you
need to establish a real identity for yourself on the Internet, you MUST
obtain your own domain name.
When you operate a normal business, you definitely want a name for it. You may even go
the extra mile to construct a name that means something special to both you and your
customers. Now, if you would like to do business on the Internet, it should be reasonable
to do the same. Why would you want to associate your business with someone else (such as isp.net)?
